WHY I AM RUNNING FOR THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF ILESA WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT – WOLE ADEDOYIN
Wole Adedoyin is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate running for the Chairmanship of Ilesa West Local Government in the upcoming Osun Local Government elections. Adedoyin is a seasoned political figure, having served as the foundation Secretary of the Interparty Advisory Council (IPAC), Oyo State Chapter, and the former State Secretary of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Oyo State Chapter. In 2018, he ran for the Governorship of Osun State under the Hope Democratic Party (HDP). Currently, he is the Chairman of the Association of Progressive Political Parties (APPPS) in Osun State. In this interview with Osun Times, Adedoyin shares insights into his political activism, agenda, and plans for Ilesa West Local Government.
OT: CAN YOU BRIEFLY INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO THE PEOPLE OF ILESA WEST?
WA: I am Wole Adedoyin, a proud native of Ilesa West, Osun State. My political journey spans several years, with a deep commitment to community development, education, and youth empowerment. In 2018, I contested the Governorship Election under the platform of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP). I have held various leadership positions in political organizations, and I am currently with APGA. My ambition to contest for the chairmanship of Ilesa West comes from a desire to harness the potential of our people and contribute to their growth and well-being.
OT: WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO CONTEST FOR THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF ILESA WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT?
WA: My motivation stems from a deep-rooted desire to serve the people of Ilesa West. I have seen firsthand the challenges our community faces—such as poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, rising unemployment, and youth unrest. These are pressing issues that need focused leadership and solutions. I believe I have the vision, experience, and commitment necessary to address these challenges and drive sustainable development in Ilesa West.
OT: WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR ILESA WEST IF ELECTED AS CHAIRMAN?
WA: My vision is to promote inclusive growth and sustainable development in Ilesa West. I want to create an environment where all residents, regardless of background, have access to quality healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. I plan to make Ilesa West a model local government in Osun State by prioritizing infrastructural development, job creation, and social welfare initiatives that will benefit everyone in the community.
OT: WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS YOU PLAN TO FOCUS ON AS CHAIRMAN OF ILESA WEST?
WA: My administration will focus on five critical areas: education, healthcare, youth and women empowerment, infrastructure, and security. In education, I will improve our schools and provide modern learning facilities. On healthcare, I will ensure the construction and proper equipping of health centers. Youth and women empowerment will be addressed through vocational training and entrepreneurship programs. Infrastructural development, such as roads, markets, and drainage systems, will be prioritized. Lastly, we will work with law enforcement to improve security across Ilesa West.
OT: HOW DO YOU INTEND TO TACKLE UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG THE YOUTH IN ILESA WEST?
WA: Youth unemployment is a pressing issue. If elected, I will introduce skill acquisition and entrepreneurship programs to help young people become self-sufficient. We will also collaborate with the private sector to attract investments that will create job opportunities. Additionally, I will facilitate access to grants and soft loans to support young entrepreneurs in establishing and growing their businesses.
OT: HOW DO YOU PLAN TO IMPROVE THE STATE OF EDUCATION IN ILESA WEST?
WA: Education is essential for the future of our community. My administration will renovate and upgrade our schools, provide modern learning materials, and train teachers to improve the quality of education. We will also work to ensure that education, especially at the primary and secondary levels, is affordable and accessible to all children. Scholarships will be available for outstanding students to pursue higher education.
OT: WHAT STRATEGIES WILL YOU IMPLEMENT TO IMPROVE HEALTHCARE SERVICES IN ILESA WEST?
WA: We plan to improve healthcare by constructing new primary healthcare centers and upgrading existing ones with modern medical equipment. We will offer free maternal and child healthcare to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates. Additionally, we will launch public health campaigns to educate residents on preventive care and the importance of regular checkups.
OT: WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS TO ENHANCE INFRASTRUCTURE IN ILESA WEST?
WA: My administration will focus on developing infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, and public utilities. We will prioritize constructing rural roads to improve access to markets and services in remote areas. Markets will be modernized, and public spaces, such as parks and recreational centers, will be rehabilitated for community use.
OT: HOW WILL YOU ENGAGE WOMEN IN YOUR ADMINISTRATION, AND WHAT ROLE WILL THEY PLAY?
WA: Women are vital to community development. My administration will ensure they are actively involved in governance and decision-making. We will launch programs to empower women through access to credit, vocational training, and mentorship opportunities. Women will also be appointed to leadership positions within the local government to ensure gender inclusivity in our administration.
OT: HOW DO YOU INTEND TO TACKLE THE ISSUE OF SECURITY IN ILESA WEST?
WA: Security is essential for a thriving society. We will collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies, local vigilante groups, and community leaders to ensure peace and stability in Ilesa West. Our administration will also focus on youth empowerment and job creation, which will help curb crime by engaging young people in productive activities. Additionally, we will ensure our streets and communities are well-lit and introduce neighborhood watch programs to enhance surveillance.
OT: WHAT WILL YOU DO TO SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES AND THE INFORMAL SECTOR IN ILESA WEST?
WA: Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and supporting them will be a priority. We will establish a business support fund that provides grants and soft loans to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and informal workers. Our administration will implement business-friendly policies and improve market conditions, allowing local businesses to thrive. Regular training programs will also be organized to help entrepreneurs enhance their skills and business practices.
OT: WHAT ROLE WILL TECHNOLOGY PLAY IN YOUR ADMINISTRATION?
WA: Technology is a key tool for development. We plan to leverage it to improve the efficiency of local government operations and service delivery. For instance, we will introduce digital platforms for tax collection, public service delivery, and communication with residents. Additionally, we will work to improve access to technology and internet services in schools and businesses across Ilesa West.
OT: HOW DO YOU PLAN TO ADDRESS ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES IN ILESA WEST?
WA: Environmental sustainability is critical for the well-being of our community. We will introduce modern waste management systems that promote recycling and proper waste disposal. Our administration will also focus on planting trees and creating green spaces to mitigate environmental degradation. Public awareness campaigns on sanitation and environmental protection will be launched to educate residents on maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
OT: HOW WILL YOU ENSURE ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY IN YOUR ADMINISTRATION?
WA: Accountability and transparency will be cornerstones of our administration. We will ensure that all government transactions are open and transparent. Regular town hall meetings will be held to update residents on our activities and spending. Additionally, we will create an independent auditing body to review government accounts and ensure funds are used for the benefit of the people. Budget and expenditure reports will be made accessible to the public.
OT: HOW WILL YOUR ADMINISTRATION WORK WITH TRADITIONAL RULERS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS?
WA: Traditional rulers and community leaders are key stakeholders in grassroots governance. We will engage with them regularly to ensure our policies and programs reflect the needs of the people. Frequent consultations will be held to seek their advice and involve them in decision-making processes. Their experience and wisdom will help guide our administration’s decisions.
OT: HOW DO YOU PLAN TO ENGAGE THE YOUTH AND ENSURE THEIR PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNANCE?
WA: Youth engagement will be a priority. We will establish youth councils that give young people a voice in governance and encourage their active participation in the development of Ilesa West. Regular youth town halls will also be organized to hear their concerns and suggestions. Furthermore, qualified youths will be appointed to key positions within the local government to ensure their inclusion in decision-making processes.
OT: WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS TO IMPROVE PUBLIC SERVICE DELIVERY IN ILESA WEST?
WA: Efficient and people-centered public service delivery is essential. We will enhance the capacity of local government workers through regular training programs and introduce a performance-based system that rewards hard work and dedication. Feedback systems will also be established to ensure services are delivered in a timely and satisfactory manner.
OT: HOW WILL YOUR ADMINISTRATION HANDLE TAXATION?
WA: We will ensure a fair and efficient tax system that does not overburden residents. Our administration will introduce digital tax collection methods to make the process easier and more transparent. Revenue generated from taxes will be used to fund infrastructural development and social welfare programs that directly benefit the people. We will also ensure that businesses and informal sector workers contribute their fair share to the local economy.
OT: HOW DO YOU PLAN TO FOSTER UNITY AND HARMONY AMONG THE DIVERSE COMMUNITIES IN ILESA WEST?
WA: Unity is key to progress. We will promote harmony by treating all communities in Ilesa West equally and ensuring that no group feels marginalized. Regular inter-community engagements will be held to foster mutual understanding and collaboration. Additionally, cultural and social programs will be organized to celebrate our diversity and encourage peaceful coexistence.
OT: WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR THE PEOPLE OF ILESA WEST AS THE ELECTION APPROACHES?
WA: To the people of Ilesa West, I say this: I am committed to serving you with dedication and integrity. Together, we can build a local government that is progressive, inclusive, and prosperous.
